We reached out to hundreds of same-sex couples who are planning their wedding in spite of the legal status and the economy. One of the things we heard over and over again from same-sex couples who visited our booth was relief and gratitude that there are wedding businesses who will support them, which is why MyQueerWedding.com is here! Ben Janken took photos of more than 30 same-sex couples who visited our booth.
On Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, the MyQueerWedding.com booth will showcase a selection of our community of wedding businesses as part of the San Francisco LGBT Pride event. This is a great opportunity to meet queer-owned and queer-friendly wedding businesses who provide products and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other un-labeled and non-traditional couples for their wedding celebration.
San Francisco LGBT Pride is the largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender event in the country, with over a half million people expected to gather in the Civic Center of downtown San Francisco during the last weekend of June to enjoy the celebrations. Watch Video of highlights from SF LGBT Pride Celebration & Parade 2008.
Thursday, February 12th is National Freedom to Marry Day. Same-sex couples in cities all over the country will request marriage licences at their local County Clerk’s Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact the inability to marry causes on their families. Everyone who supports marriage equality is welcome to attend and support this event.
Since 2001, Marriage Equality USA® chapters have engaged in these annual marriage counter actions to render visible the discrimination that is enforced every day. It is an affront to our basic dignity as fellow human beings when same-sex couples are turned away from the marriage counter, but it gives us the opportunity to tell our stories and show that we live in every community and want to honor and protect our families like everyone else.
Visit www.marriageequality.org for more information about National Freedom to Marry Day Activities, including a calendar of events.
MyQueerWedding.com helped sponsor “Wedding Wednesday” a day of same-sex weddings produced by the East Bay Express newspaper. Congratulations to the three couples who are now legally married, Molly and April, Ted and Brian, Robby and Bryan!
MyQueerWedding.com spent the day at San Francisco’s City Hall to help spread the word about the documentary we are making about marriage equality. It was an exciting day to be part of such a historic time for same-sex marriage. Queers and straight allies were on the steps of City Hall in support of all of the same-sex couples who arrived to get married.
MyQueerWedding.com attended the first ever Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender Wedding Pavilion as part of the Golden Gate Business Association Pride Business Expo in San Francisco. Our booth was met with much enthusiasm, as same-sex couples were happy to discover our website community of wedding businesses who support same-sex marriage. Many news reporters interviewed us and featured our website including the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal.
